Just Think Vol.13: The Face
By A.Evans

For lucky article number 13, I would like to take a different approach from my usual food for thought selection, and share with you all a more poetic form of writing, a more personal form of writing as a mere expression of gratitude for all of the amazing feedback. The piece below is an excerpt from my personal blog site "ADOTEVANS.com" as always I'm eager to discover What You All Think?

So I'm sitting listening to The Dream Love vs Money and immediately someone comes to mind...I ignore it for a while, but then this face enters my frontal lobe. Now this song called "Fancy" comes on and poof the face appears again, and once again I ignore it. Or at least I try to...The face is faint its just a silhouette, the silhouette transforms into random scenes, random scenarios like a movie...{background music} "...Fancy, Live Fancy...."
I see the face singing this song I see the face again and again I begin drifting...(A don't do it !!!!)

Too late; my imagination is getting the best of me I'm there...I begin to fancy this face. The more I drift, the face becomes clearer, everything is gray like we're inside of a cloud and the lights are dim. There is a subtle darkness except this face...Hands reach out from the gray abyss and pulls me in, now the face smiles and light surrounds us like an aura or halo. This face has me floating effortlessly like the contents of a lava lamp as the music plays "Live Fancy...live Fancy"

...Lightening with no thunder, just the flashes and flickers of light as I float farther and father eye to eye with this face, time isn't a factor, I'm seeing moments of happiness with out the audio just this face....the track changes "Right Side of My Brain" plays the face fades, I'm struggling to see it, the light gets dim and dim and dim until I can only make out the eyes...eyes, they tell a story, these eyes read happiness, disappointment, resentment, anger and love...

I blink the face is gone..."I shoulda been using the right side of my brain"

A void enters or resurfaces, something is missing, this face has left me feeling empty....crowded rooms, nightclubs, bars, great company, still the void lingers...I play fancy again in hopes that this face will return....nope...Emptiness & Loneliness consume my interior though my exterior is always cool, calm, and collective...searching for a way back to this face N.E.R.D status, falling from the cloud...falling...falling..... no safety net...back to reality...BACK TO THE BOOTH !!!!

My shortcomings, mistakes, and pain is my motivation .... all those things summed up is the face that I see everyday...

When you zone out to music...What Do You Think?
Marketing Buzz of the Week By Max Rivers http://www.Twitter.Com/MaxRivers Churches Get Religion on Marketing

Number of Nonbelievers Is Rising, but Is Marketing the Solution or Problem?
Marketing may or may not have played a role in American's increasingly fickle relationship with religion, but it's certainly playing one today as organized religions scramble to get consumers' attention.

Real Talk: What it means to be a NI**ER

Last year I sat and watched the red carpet section of the Grammy's when I saw my fellow Virgo grace the camera with his wife donning a t-shirt that said "NIGGER". Wait a minute rewind that back, I saw Nasir Jones better known as "Nas" and a group of supporters of different ethnicities in NIGGER Fashion. This is clearly a sign that the times have changed, television has become so liberal when I was a child they would have blurred out the image to say the least. Nas was interviewed about his "message", there were no censors over the word and things went relatively normal. I mentioned earlier that Nas is a Virgo because they are the thinkers of the zodiac and very strategic in their movements, so maybe Nas is titled his album NIGGER grappling after the publicity that it caused so that we can have intelligent discourses like the one we are about to have.

Wait one second, before you lose interest in fear that I am about take you on a historical voyage enduring the plight of black people and the socialization of the term Nigger and how we need to accept the term to empower ourselves, I promise you I will not. This is not the typical discussion of whether this is a term of endearment or mental slavery. But to understand what I am interested in the concept of the term nigger we must first look to one of the great writers of the Harlem Renaissance, James Baldwin.

Baldwin says, "What white people have to do is try to find out in their own hearts why it was necessary to have a nigger in the first place. Because I'm not a nigger, I'm a man! But if you think I'm a nigger it means you need it. If I'm not the nigger here and you, the white people invented him then you've got to find out why?"

Baldwin paints us such a vivid picture when he speaks about the system needing a nigger. You see the term nigger is about an institutionalized inferiority complex. The system, those proponents of white supremacy need a nigger to belittle, they need a nigger to make themselves feel better than because they lack self-esteem. The nigger is needed in order to perpetuate systems of control, a hierarchy within this great land from sea to shining sea. Unfortunately today the term nigger has become synonymous with black people. However this is not the case, this is not the fate of black people; this has been the position of various ethnic groups in America. I will chronicle the stories of three niggers who have been bastardized by a system of oppression and blatant racism in this country without ever painting the picture of a black face!

If you are of Middle Eastern decent, or even look like you could possibly be of the Islamic faith after 9/11, I regret to inform you but the United States has declared you a NIGGER! Your rights were stripped from you; you became the victims of police brutality, random searches and seizure, and you are always pulled aside at the airport for more questioning. Why is this; because you fit the "description", you look suspicious? But none of this is true; it is merely the pigment of your skin and the religious affiliation that you are suspected of practicing which garners you such attention. You watch your faith and belief system ridiculed daily on television, you have become the butt of all jokes. You're fearful when your children go to school because other children will torment them; forgive them for they know not what they do. You came to this country with hopes of reaching the American dream however you are now living the American nightmare! The ultimate insult is no longer to be black but it is to be Muslim. Your beautiful, peaceful culture has been tainted by slander; you are now judged by the few who make it tough for the many. Welcome!

La Familia: APHRODISIAC SCENTS

By Shelli Tinae Price

One of the strongest of the 5 senses is the sense of smell. Our nose has the exotic ability to pick up a scent and tap into our memory and our strongest desires. My favorite scent is of a man, of course, but an untapped man; no perfumes to cover up his pheromones. Pheromones are chemicals released by living organisms to send messages to beings of the same species. Have you ever noticed someone's natural scents just seemed uncannily familiar and safe to you?

In an article on suite101.com called, "Love, Sex and the Sense of Smell," it says studies on the role of aromas in attractiveness and romance have found that:
· women prefer the smell of men whose genetics are similar but not too similar to their own
· men prefer women's body odor during the time of the month when they are fertile

I find it very intriguing that we pick up scents on a genetic level. It means we have the ability to detect someone's energy just from their natural fragrance. That natural scent is an aphrodisiac, exciting you on such a subtle level that you may never even recognize what turned you on.

A lot of people have the misconception that they need to go out and buy expensive perfumes or colognes but if a person picks up your scent it will be from your natural odor. Have you ever tried on the same perfume as someone but it didn't smell the same on you as it did them? That's because your body chemistry is unique and distinct...waiting for the right person to catch a whiff.

Tip:
Try putting on scents that enhance your natural pheromones and don't over power them. Some aphrodisiac educing oils are jasmine, neroli, sandalwood, ylang ylang and my favorite...lavender. Try a dab of one of these oils in just the right places and you'll be sure to get a rise from your mate.

Erk Tha Jerk is not your every day, ordinary rap artist. In an era where the majority of artists are all sounding the same, looking the same, and doing the same things, Erk stands out as a real one of a kind artist. At first glance, you would not assume that Erk was a rapper/producer/songwriter, but with his trademark glasses, wit, and laid back persona, he brings something that your average music listener can embrace and relate to. He explains, "Being myself is a must. That's the kind of music I make. Real sh*t. I don't feel the same every day. Some days I'm on my get money sh*t, then the next I'm on my chill at home sh*t. I just make sure everybody can relate".

In 2003 Erk joined an up and coming group, Kali Fam. The group enjoyed national success and respectable record sales, but after they returned home from tour, Kali Fam decided to go it's separate ways, leaving Erk free to pursue a solo career. Erk found that finding credible production to accompany his lyrics would not be an easy task, which led him to start teaching himself the art of making beats. After some time, Erk's production talents had become quite formidable, and he produced all of his own work, and other artists began seeking him out to produce their work as well.

Even though his status as a producer was growing, his heart has always been in his raps. In late 2007, he dropped "The Hood Nerd" mixtape, which created some buzz around him as an artist, and got the streets talking. The song "Dont Need Em" became a favorite of DJ's and listeners, and has been getting significant plays on 106.1 KMEL. In order to capitalize off the building buzz, Erk released "The Hood Nerd EP" exclusively on Itunes featuring the hit song "Dont Need Em", which is a precursor to an upcoming album, which is in the making. In June 2008, Erk released "Im So Dumb" which is a witty, comedic song satirizing the "Hyphy Movement", and effectively pronouncing it dead. The song has been receiving praise from all over the region for its blunt honesty, and has been considered a long overdue message by many of the most powerful figures and artists in the local scene. In 2009, Erk collaborated with Bay Area Legend Too $hort on the new single "Plane in The Air", further establishing his ability to make hit songs. His lyrical talents and vibrant personality are evident in the song, and has every one talking about Erk Tha Jerk. You can expect Erk to do what he does best, "Make hit music for real people".
