Just Think Vol.17: Remembering Michael Jackson
By A.Evans

Disclaimer: Words alone will never capture the dynamic that is Michael Jackson, what I have attempted to do is stimulate your brain to make you ask questions, while appreciating the life, time, and works of an icon.
By now we have all come to grips with the fact that the best entertainer the world has ever seen, has passed away. We have all had different reactions to such a tremendous loss, for some of us it took several days to actually accept the fact that Michael Jackson is no longer alive in physical form. I know it took me a week and a half to actually accept it. Michael Jackson was a bridge, he eliminated racial barriers and generation gaps through his music, he provided us with history and influence. Michael provided us with a history of the elders like James Brown, while setting a standard for the next generation to follow. Without Michael Jackson there would be no Usher, Omarion, Chris Brown or Ne-Yo. The impact Michael had on us all all is immeasurable, there will never be another to grace the stage and move us quite the way Michael Jackson did.
Will the Media and Materialism ruin his Legacy?
Is it me or does it seem that the passing of Michael Jackson has enabled the media to create a circus around the legacy of one of the best entertainers in the world? Why is it that the media feels the need to highlight negativity instead of remembering the great things about Michael Jackson, if the negativity wasn't highlighted would there even been as much media coverage? It seems there are so many dramatics around the passing of Michael Jackson that don't even include Michael Jackson, from the fans committing suicide, to the custody battles, to the opinions of other celebrities who appear to only pay tribute to keep themselves relevant. Why isn't Michael Jackson receiving the honorable mourning through the media the way Elvis or John Lennon did? Were they without flaw or fault? Is the nostalgic memorabilia a sincere tribute or a convenient way to profit off of his departure from us. Never have I seen so much materialism behind a persons passing, I mean are the promo text messages with phone companies really necessary? How much will the price increase on an "Off The Wall" album that was $8.99? When does mourning turn into obsession or hidden agenda?
What Now?
Now that Michael is gone, who will carry the torch? Who will step up and take the reigns the Jay-Z did after Biggies early departure. Can Usher claim the throne or will it be thrown into the lap of Justin Timberlake? What if it is given to Timberlake? It does appear that Timberlake could be handed the crown, and if that were to happen; Does he really deserve it? Will Usher make a comeback after a few shortcomings or will the media and the powers that be behind the music industry create a new King?
One things for sure there will never be another Micheal Jackson.

Marketing Buzz of the Week

What Your Favorite Social Network Says About You
Do you Twitter? Then you are more interested in sex than the average Facebook, MySpace or LinkedIn user. Like LinkedIn? You're more likely to watch soap operas. Favor MySpace? You're probably not into exercise.
Which social network you favor says a lot about you and you might be surprised just what it says. A new study by Anderson Analytics is helping identify users' likely interests, buying habits, media consumption and more for marketers. The survey studied the demographics and psychographics of both social networkers and non-users and found that "there are definite data-driven segments in the social-networking-site market, both for non-users and users," said Tom Anderson, founder and managing partner.
Users tend to spend a lot of time on social networks. The average social networker goes to social sites five days a week and checks in about four times a day for a total of an hour each day. A super-connected 9% stay logged in all day and are "constantly checking out what's new."
Social networkers get a bad rap for using social media to pump up their egos and reputations with "fake" friends. But the truth is, in general, they're not super-aggressive about building networks. Almost half (45%) said they will link only to family and friends, and another 18% will link only to people they've met in person. That means almost two-thirds associate only with people they know offline. The fake-frienders are still out perpetuating the myth, though -- 10% of those surveyed said they will connect with anyone who's willing to connect with them.
Contrary to what some might think, people who spurn social media aren't tech haters. In fact, they spend as much time as social-media fans surfing the web. But they say they don't use social media for three basic reasons: They don't have the time, they don't think it's secure or they think it's stupid. While the first two groups -- which Anderson labels "time-starved" and "concerned" -- may be swayed to join eventually, don't hold out much hope for the last group: 94% said they will never use social media.
"Facebook is average because it has the most users. When stat testing, anything near the average is less likely to be significant," Mr. Anderson said. "They are also capturing a wider range of users for various reasons, from high-school and college fun, leisure user to business and parents and grandparents."
They are more likely to be married (40%), white (80%) and retired (6%) than users of the other social networks. They have the second-highest average income, at $61,000, and an average of 121 connections.
Twitterers are also entrepreneurial. They are more likely than others to use the service to promote their blogs or businesses. How do they keep going? Coffee, apparently. Some 31% buy coffee online, far above the average 21% of other social networkers.
They're more likely to be employed part-time (16% vs. 11% average), have an average income of $58,000, and average 28 followers and 32 other Twitterers they're following. They're not particularly attached to the site, though -- 43% said they could live without Twitter.
The 67 million who are still there are into having a good time. They're more likely to have joined MySpace for fun and more likely to be interested in entertaining friends, humor and comedy, and video games. They're less into exercise than any other social group but seek out parenting information more than any other.
The content MySpace users put up is most often about specific hobbies, or pictures of family and friends. Their average income is the lowest, at $44,000, and they have an average of 131 connections. They're more likely to be black (9%) or Hispanic (7%) than users of the other social sites. They are also more likely to be single (60%) and students (23%).
LinkedIn users
It's probably no surprise these guys are all about business. We say guys because LinkedIn has the only user group with more males than females (57% to 43%). They have the highest average income, at $89,000, and are more likely to have joined the site for business or work, citing keeping in touch with business networks, job searching, business development and recruiting as top reasons.
Real Talk: Psycho Chic or Lying Dudes
By Cedric D. Shine
http://twitter.com/NativeNotes
Due to some of the recent stories in the news I feel compelled to discuss the crazy chic syndrome. I'm sure you've heard your share of stories with women throwing hot grits on a man's back, ladies pulling a Jazz Sulli and busting the windows out your car or worst someone or someone close to you actually gets murdered because of psycho women. One has to ask themselves, where are all these psycho women coming from, and how do I avoid them?
The truth is, any woman can be a psycho if you make her that way. Remember listening to the Intruders 'thin line between love and hate', they paint the picture vividly for you "you keep hurting her, she keep being quiet, she might be holding something inside, that could really hurt you one day".
There are ton of scenarios that cause women go 7:30 but lately it's guys' inability to tell the 'keep it real'. In an effort to rival Max Julien's The Mack, fellas are trying to have a harem of women on their arm and because men can be territorial they want that harem exclusively to themselves. What am I talking about? You want to slay 3 or 4 girls at the same time and you don't want them slaying anyone else because you don't want your emergency bunz to be unavailable when you want to break that emergency glass.
So we lay in bed, cuddling, holding ladies tight, telling them about our dreams, and listening to theirs. Whispering sweet nothings in their ear while the moonlight creeps in the bedroom and shines down on her face. You have successfully begun to architect your own demise. This young lady might have been perfectly fine with being your jump-off as you were hers. But in an attempt to be selfish with the booty you started selling her dreams, she bought into those dreams and now you have the making of a woman scorned on your hands. Maybe it's not "official" but she doesn't mind being your "un-official girl". You may never have said the words 'you're the only one' but your actions imply them.
When you run this game on a few different women you are bound to be discovered by the League of Women's Intuition and some secret society that they have that meets late at nights and has pictures of men on the walls who they are going to ruin for doing sisters dirty. Now your card has been pulled, and there are scores of other scorned women sitting around, plotting, watching Waiting to Exhale and your pretty red rose has become a wrinkled, cold, petal-less stem with anger in her core. The psychos around her are no help, they're telling her ways she can get even. Which windows on the car are the most expensive, how to seduce you into a warm bath and then surprise you with some scalding grits. And for what!
Because as a man you failed to tell the keep it real. Moral of the story is, these crazy chics are crazy "sometimes" because of the fake players out there, lying to women and turning them into erratic psychopaths. Keep it real; if you just want to beat, there are plenty who will let you. But when you start selling dreams of a future with you and her and you don't really mean it, you are preparing for a future alright, sadly if she's crazy enough you may not end up in the picture at all.
La Familia: Self Pleasure
By Shelli Tinae Price

This week on 'Straight Talk with Ella Bleu,' we got down to the nitty-gritty on self pleasure.
Most people sneak up on self pleasure at an early age when they are discovering their bodies. Prior to that the body just appeared to be this intricate piece of art that we didn't understand; like we know a car needs gas but have no idea how to build an engine. So the question is: how did self pleasure become so taboo?
If you grew up in a religious home you know that lustful thoughts were shunned upon. Self pleasure was attached to feelings of guilt and remorse (it's amazing to me how religion has the ability to stifle your growth by instilling fear but I'm not going there today). So what we discovered is that the people who masturbate tend to know their bodies and enjoy sex more because they already know the way to their erogenous zones. If you get nothing more from this, please do not rely on your partner to teach you about your own body. I learned my body so know EVERYTHING. Even if I have a headache I can feel the knot in my neck or shoulders and kneed it out. Our bodies are always talking to us.
Your body is a sacred place where spirit resides. Imagine how great your sexual experience would be if you both knew your own bodies. Hopefully some of you can already giving a convincing amen to that! I'm not saying go home and ritualistically please yourself everyday but it should be a periodic exercise to explore the inner & outter workings of your body...a work of art.

Atlanta Rapper LT, who in his early years was dubbed "Lil Third" (James White III) for continuing the cycle after his biological father and grandfather, is unabashedly not among the norm. Raised in Newnan GA, the son of a preacher, LT aka Spote learned he had an artistic side at the age of nine. However, with little to no supervision, LT found his way into more trouble than he could handle and at age 21 was sentenced to do a two year bid in prison.
Fortunately, upon his release, LT and relative Boo Man were able to establish their independent label - Street Fame Major Money Entertainment. - While already being proclaimed the next biggest star out of the south, LT is as humble as ever about his current situation "I don't really get caught up in the hype, I just make good music that people can relate to" says LT. As such, LT is set to return to form with a new street album, "Infatuated With Money" hosted by Atlanta's "go to" dj, DJ Infamous and boasting tracks from Multi-Platinum and Grammy Nominated producer Shawty Redd and heavyweight hit makers Dun Deal and MJ.
With a May 2009 release date as of press time, hit singles "Block Party" and "Prototype" have already begun to turn heads on the airwaves and of course, in the streets!
