Real Talk: Crack: What does it mean to YOU?
By Cedric Shine
Twitter.com/NativeNotes

Crack House, Trap House, Real Estate

To the landlord, this is a legal nightmare! I could lose my home. And when I try to kick these people out I have to do it by the books and the books, well the law has more perks for the tenant than the landowner. It's a headache; the neighbors call me, saying I've forgotten where I come from. How can I let these people live here and do to the community what they're doing? I hate that house!

To law enforcement, this is the bust that could advance my career. A few more busts like these and I'll make sergeant. I hope when we go in there, these idiots were dumb to enough to leave loads of dope, and loads of guns out in plain view. It will be me, the drugs, and the guns on the front page of the newspapers. I'll be a hero for busting a crime driven establishment with more felonies being committed than one could imagine. These places are the reason I have a job, a place to stake out, a schedule to monitor, scheme to catch, the hunt is on for white October. Always bet on blue!

To the neighborhood kid, a place of action, constant traffic. This is the fast life right before my eyes. And the people are varied. Luxury cars, hoopties, suits, rags, whites, blacks, I even saw an Asian guy going inside. Not so smart now huh! This is the world outside my window. Fast cars, fast money and it never stops! Friday nights are insane but Monday mornings I see the remnants of a rough weekend, still cars outside, still people acting strange, my best friends brother tells us they're high. And there are people watching this place, some good, and some bad. It's a place mom tells me to stay away from. But the action of it, man the action of it!

To an elder in the community; this is the reason my property value continues to plummet. This is the reason our community is in shambles; it's them, them, them..... Those people in there sinning with their loud music, their destructive drugs and people coming in and out all times of the night. They are the reason I cringe when my grandchildren walk outside, I'm scared that my grandson will be hit with a stray bullet from one of their guns. Who are they, bastard children, they move in our neighborhood and destroy it and sadly their skin looks just like me. NO RESPECT NO RESPECT NO RESPECT... In the old days they kept this stuff out of the hands of women and children but these classless idiots will sell to their own mothers. I pray for my community, I pray for my people.

To the drug peddler. I'm just doing my job! I don't bother folks at their place of business so I wish they'd stop bothering me. Don't they see how messed up it is around here. The cops are crooked, the elders' judge, mad because they never got anything out of life. Scared to point their fingers at the real masterminds of this trade. I don't have a boat to get stuff past customs yet it's my face when they fight this so called "war on drugs". All while financing both sides.

This ain't civil rights this is my fight. My fight to live, my right to eat. When I was growing up poor these same people turned their backs on me. When mom had no food they wouldn't even lend us cheese. Now it's all about me. I gotta get mine. These crack heads, these fiends they aint got no lives. They steal to get the rock, they lie to get the rock, sell their body just to get the rock. So who really cares what I sell them. They're animals and if I don't sell it someone else will. I'm really tryna make enough bread and get out this game. Imma flip this into a legal hustle, I rap, and my man does the beats. Ima make a living putting my life on these streets to these beats. I see shorty outside he got a wandering eye. He's smart though so I want better for him but his best friends brother, he's dumb and wants in I'll have him selling for me next week.

The Abuser, I'm no junkie, I just like to get high. I been using drugs as a recreation for 20 something years. Life is hard, my kids done grown up and left me, my husband left me and my family constantly turns their back on me. Now I'll admit, I was strung out at one point, you know doing whatever I could do to get a hit but now I got this under control. Trust that I am no different than the Wall Street man, shoot I've snorted with the best of em, and had fun with the rest of them.

Sometimes I feel bad. Just because of what I've put my family through. They deserve better, I want to stop but you don't know my pain. For a brief moment my high helps me escape my harsh reality. I'm a victim of circumstance. I never intended to make this a habit, I guess it just happened. I told my children my story because they needed to know, I wanted them to beware of the choices I made. Now they look at me with disgust too, I aint got nothing left but that place to go get high at and buy my drugs. No one there judges me; they're the only friends I have left.

CRACK WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?

Marketing Buzz:How The Social Media Really Gets Made At Agencies
By Steve Canal
Twitter.com/SteveCanal
Twitter.com/ThinkGroupMedia

Advertising, PR, and marketing agencies are rapidly waking up to the fact that they can no longer be competitive without including social and emerging media in the work they propose to clients.

But in many, if not most, agencies, social media is suffering from Slide 29 Syndrome.

That's when an account exec calls the digital gurus and says something like this: "For the past few weeks, we've been working on an RFP that we need to send to the client tomorrow. Please add some social media recommendations to the deck and get it us by COB today."

They say that because they think social media is Twitter and Facebook and that you pretty much just need to throw up a page so you can broadcast your press releases and announcements.

Or, they say: "We don't have much money left in the budget and we need to add some digital to the deck. Send us some ideas we can add to what we've got."

They say that because they need to bill a certain number of hours this week, and they don't want social media to use up too many of them.

And then the digital ideas get added on to the deck -- usually somewhere around Slide 29.

Most CMOs, account managers and project managers in agencies or on the client side still don't have real-world experience using social media and therefore don't understand that:

1.Social media is a way of thinking, not just a set of tools.
2.They don't walk the walk themselves.
3.Emerging media needs to be built into the architecture of a plan, starting from the first brainstorm -- not appended to a finished proposal.
4.Social media is a conversational medium, not a broadcast platform.
5.Companies that don't listen to customers will often be bitten on the ass by them.
6.Emerging media is substantially more measurable than traditional media, but the metrics are different.
7.Social media is not a gimmick, or a substitute for a marketing strategy.

Disclaimer: As always, I write these articles to stimulate minds and to get the thought process in motion....

I hate to keep using "How To Make It In America" as my reference point or source for writing but if you can't get anything out of that show I will deliver it and translate it for you. For those who aren't familiar with the show the title speaks for itself, the show displays the hustle and grind of everyday people trying to make it and stopping at nothing. At times the characters run into brick wall but always figure out a way to either climb it or run through it. We all have issues, we all have dreams, goals and wonderful ideas; how we turn those ideas into gold is entirely up to us. How we use our issues as a stepping stone or obstacle to overcome is up to us. What we become is up to us. This week I feel it is my duty to say to all of you DO YOU !!! No matter what it is Do You !!!

What if it does?
We all have goals dreams and ideas, and sometimes when we share these goals dreams and ideas with others the feedback isn't what we want to hear. The feedback can be positive, negative, or just plain honest. What we do with that feedback, how we internalize it, or use it as motivation is once again entirely up to us. Too many times we think what if our idea doesn't work and we'll let that discourage us. Sometime friends, loved ones, and significant others can be the source of negating an idea. Whenever that occurs look in the mirror and say "What if does work out?" We should all have a "What if it does, or a Why Wouldn't it?" attitude. Don't let anyone tell you that what you are going after is foolish or pointless especially if they don't have anything going on for themselves. Always remember misery loves company, and sometimes the people you hold dear are the ones who aren't strong enough to make their dreams happen so they'll try to sabotage yours. Always think "What if does work out, Why wouldn't it"...
(Side note) Sometimes when people hate on your dreams, and ideas it's confirmation that its actually a great one, and they wish they would have thought of it first.

Final Thoughts
This weeks food for thought is short simple and to the point, Do You. Go after what's yours, you wouldn't have the idea to begin with if it wasn't. If you want to direct movies, design skateboards start a magazine, write a book, be a rapper (ummm think about it before you pursue it) go for it. Don't make any life decisions for yourself based upon the opinions of others, and even if what you are going after isn't for you, you will discover what is, you will be prepared for it when you find it. So with that said F*ck the haters and non believers and Do You. I don't care if it's your parents, girlfriend, best friend, sister, brother whoever...DO YOU !!! And once you make buy em a t-shirt that says "Left Cheek or Right Cheek" ...As Always Peace & Love

La Familia: FEAR... NOT!
By Shelli Tinae Price
La Familia Blogspot

How can you fear something you do not know? I mean, most people fear death, financial ruin, heights severe illness, or even the boogeyman, yet most people have NEVER experienced them. Follow me here: Experience is the only thing that makes such incidents appear real. I've never experienced physical death( I know, I know. No one likes when someone dies because we are left to felt alone, sad and the such, but we STILL don't know what death feels like...obviously) so how can I perceive its' woes? I've never been terminally ill, been on a sinking ship or had a serious encounter with serial killer, so to say I fear the unknown is a double negative: one cannot fear something unless the experience becomes tangible. And what if you have been on the sinking Titanic or have beaten cancer? Can you still say you fear it?

I can tell ya. I've been broke. It stinks. I have been without the love from a man...lame. But I do not fear it. I dislike it. I prefer not to have the previously listed instances occur because through my experiences i can testify that to me, it's most unfavorable. However I cannot tell you how the boogeyman creeps me out or how it feels to be shot because I simply do not know the feeling. What I do know of those things are the testimony of others through their experiences or even more bizarre, their perception of their experiences.

Speaking of perception, how many things that you believe you fear come from constant years of people telling you how it felt to them? or perhaps your fear comes from what you read or what you see on television? Think about it....a little more...ok. Almost all our fears are solely based on our mental conditioning, yes, mine included. But it's alright. It's never too soon to change how we see things. When we change our vision, we change our perception. when we change our perception, we change our entire life!

I was told that fear is an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real... the past is history(cannot be changed) the future is a mystery(unknown therefore unreal)and today is a gift. Why so? The only real thing in our possession is NOW. This moment is the only immutable truth. Tomorrow is an illusion because it hasn't happened yet. So to fear something that hasn't occurred means we aren't living at all. Crazy right? The only thing that separates us from those labeled 'crazy' or 'mentally unstable' is there thoughts and illusions are spoken aloud and ours lie dormant...that is, until our fears manifest themselves into all we imagined them to be...and more. So guard your thoughts and more so leave behind the concept of fear. There's simply no such thing. As I write to you, I write to myself.

Peace, People.

Grub Report: The Vortex
438 Moreland Avenue
Atlanta, GA
By The Fabian
Twitter.com/thefabe

A nice afternoon out in Little five points with friends, people everywhere, spirits high. We arrive at Vortex and are welcomed by a 20 to 25 minute wait, which apparently was not that bad for fellow fans of obviously not so healthy food as we weren't the only ones waiting. By most standards Vortex isn't that big of an establishment but its the food that matters, you can opt for a table inside or sit on the patio and enjoy your meal. First thing i noticed is the "Stuff you need to know" section of the menu which starts off by saying Vortex is not politically correct and then proceeds to let you know stupidity will be rewarded with ridicule. As for the food, they offer soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers and stuff for you vegetarians but i obviously skipped that section. I always pick something unhealthy which is usually the best tasting. Enter the Coronary bypass burger, a half pound of beef with a fried egg,3 slices of cheese, four slices of bacon, mayo and tater tots. Tasty, filling and sure to be on the list of things a doctor would advise against eating regularly, but if that's not enough you can order the double bypass burger which is twice as big (i bet money you wont finish it). A spot that fits right in with the appeal of the Little 5 area, check out Vortex when you have some time to spare.

Just Think Vol 46: Spring Cleaning
by A.EVANS

Disclaimer: As always, I write these articles to stimulate minds and to get the thought process in motion....
New Year, New You Follow Up #1 (Quarterly Assessment)
As the clocks move forward, and the days grow longer and we eagerly await the change of the season, let us remember and reflect on the resolutions and promises that we have made to ourselves back in the earlier part of this year, as we reach the close of the first quarter of 2010. Let us observe what progress we have made and where we have fallen short. It's time for a spring cleaning ladies and gentlemen, it's time to get rid of those nasty habits that we said we would get rid of but haven't seemed to shake yet, it's time to put in that extra 30 mins in the gym that we usually put off till tomorrow it's time be better versions of ourselves. Let's go !

Would you look at the time
We look at our calendars but we still can't believe it's already April, where did the time go? More importantly what have you been doing with your time, what progress have you made since making your resolutions? Have you been completely honest with yourself, have you made a conscious effort to stick to your script and move towards advancement? Have you noticed any areas that required more work than you initially planned? Now is the time to do exactly that, I challenge you all to observe what you have done in the past four months and ask yourself what progress will it bring, is it a positive transition or a toxic one? Are you still carrying last year's baggage? What will you do this quarter to prepare yourself for the next transition in September?Try to remember time can be your friend or your enemy its really up to you what side you want time to be on. With that said make the most of your time and always stay one step ahead.

Final Thoughts
As we enter the second quarter, remember to use your time wisely, make the best of your situation, if you haven't followed through on your resolutions start now it's a new day. If you realize the direction you were going in isn't working, take a new one it's never too late to set the tone for your life and advancement. I urge you all to asses your life every four months, every quarter took a look at what you have done learn from that and become better, if your game plan needs revision then get the pad out and re-strategize. The key to success is planning, preparation, execution and assessment. Until next quarter make it happen it's all in you...As Always Peace & Love

Marketing Buzz:Behold (and Fear) the Social-Media Power of Justin Bieber!
By Steve Canal
Twitter.com/SteveCanal
Twitter.com/ThinkGroupMedia

If you have a young teen or tween in your life, you already know that this is an epic week: 16-year-old Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber's second album, "My World 2.0" (sequel to last November's "My World"), was released last week. Actually, you don't even need a minor around to tell you what a major deal this kid has become: He's on the current cover of Billboard; "My World 2.0" takes the lead review spot in the latest Rolling Stone (it got three stars); he's done a live-performance residency on QVC; charmed the ladies of "The View"; and rocked Letterman last night with a high-energy performance -- complete with a synchronized dance routine straight out of the Backstreet-meets-'NSYNC playbook -- of his hit single "Baby."

Bieber's been pretty much unstoppable as a Twitter meme since January. His recent one-day peak: Sunday, Feb. 28, when 84,846 tweets name-checked him. Over the past couple of months he's essentially become a permanent feature of Twitter's "Trending Topics" list.

He's held the No. 1 spot almost every Friday in our weekly Top 10 Most Tweeted Brands chart (only the Oscars were able to displace him, by a slight margin, to No. 2 a couple weeks back).

He's been chewing up a truly mind-boggling amount of bandwidth in the streaming-media realm. Yesterday, he set a record for himself at Last.fm: 1,854,917 plays of his songs within a single 24-hour period.

Bieber may be the biggest legit pop star ever created by YouTube. Other viral-video phenomena have garnered more views over time, but in terms of transitioning from genuine obscurity to massively monetizable pop superstardom, Bieber is unmatched. Three years ago he was a kid living in a small town in Stratford, Ontario. After competing in something called "Stratford Idol," he put some of his surprisingly soulful covers of songs by the likes of Usher and Ne-Yo on YouTube, garnering more than 10 million views before getting signed by, yes, Usher. (By the time "My World" came out last November, he'd surpassed 100 million YouTube views.) As he notes rather hilariously on his MySpace page (Bieber was just 13 when this was all happening), "I sang for Usher, and his people and he really wanted to sign me then and there, but I still had a meeting with Justin Timberlake, who also wanted to sign me. It turned out Usher's deal was way better." (Go, player!) He went on to become the first solo artist in history to send four songs into Billboard's Top 40 before his debut album was even released.

Real Talk: Believe In You
By Cedric Shine
Twitter.com/NativeNotes

"I spent my whole life trying to be the heartthrob; I guess its only right that I got my heart robbed"- Common

That line right there is poignant, so reminiscent of the lives that we have lead. Playing the field, toying with people's emotions and then what happens! We Fall, we fall victim to our own tools of manipulation, once we were the one sought after. Now we seek, and we remember, remember how it felt to be sought. We miss that, we miss being in control. Now we're vulnerable and we hate it, we hate every aching moment of knowing that we are not in control of our own feelings. What is one to do?

Life is deep; love is deeper but the love for oneself that is the deepest love of all. Everyone says I love myself; I love myself more than anything in this whole wide world. That's one of the biggest lies we've ever told ourselves. Loving yourself is one of the hardest things to do, which is why we run to situations that aren't healthy for us, looking for love. It's apparent by the things we allow in our lives; we're constantly proving that we don't love ourselves. People walk all over us and we accept it. The real question is why do we accept it? Channel deep within; it's because you feel guilty about something, something you've done in the past. So you allow the mistreatment, because you know that if the truth were to be told you feel like you deserve less. That guilt, that shame, whatever you did you have to learn to wash it away. My therapy is prayer but even that is hard.

We live in a fast food world, where we want everything as fast as we can get a quarter pounder with cheese without onions, extra ketchup and pickles on the side. I mean we do right, so prayer sounds nuts, because with prayer, we actually have to believe. Well how can we believe in the creator when we don't see him? We see ourselves everyday and don't even believe in that. That's why we don't love ourselves because we are out of touch with the God that's within us. You know your flaws, you know the skeletons and you know that if someone had made some of the mistakes that you made then you wouldn't want them either. So essentially we don't want to be with ourselves.

That's why I said my therapy is prayer, seeing is believing but sight is not really what we think it is. Faith is moving without seeing anything, yet you believe it exists. Well if what you see isn't really what you think it is then what is wrong with setting your belief in faith, both of which you can't see but you have a better chance believing in the one who created your very existence than these people who may look to sabotage us as we have sabotaged others. Start believing in you, that's all I'm really saying and don't worry about being wrong or worried about succeeding. You learn more from your failures anyway. Don't always look for an answer some times we need to recognize what is the question that we want answered

La Familia:The Resurrection
By Shelli Tinae Price
La Familia Blogspot

Spring is here and it's time for a resurrection. There are parts of us that lay dormant waiting for us to light the flame and rekindle the relationship with self. I've talked to a lot of people and everyone seems to be feeling heavy and what better way to feel lighter than to reinvent yourself...be born again. If you feel something is missing in your life - there probably is. Think about what's missing in your life and execute discipline and faith to revive that sleeping giant. Whatever is missing is simply waiting to be revived; none of this is new, we've been here before. The challenge is to remember the key points (good and bad) our past without being stuck there and use it as vehicle to move forward.

Easter is in a few days and the bible says Jesus (Yeshua) rose from the dead to save us from our sins. Resurrection can happen at any time in our lives but we have to be ready and willing to make a change. Even a subtle change can be vital. Stepping out of your daily routine can be inventive and a step away from the cross that bounds you. Breaking cycles help you see beyond your current realm of thinking. Expansion...isn't that what we are here to do? Expand our existence and overall understanding of life?

Resurrection takes courage, strength and discipline. All characteristics you are born with - even if untapped, they are there for you to explore. Make this celebration of Easter more than about Jesus. It's been about you all along anyway. In the spirit of spring, find a way to renew yourself. What are you waiting for?

Event Recap: Chocolate Soul Lounge Feat. Chantae Cann
By Fabian
Twitter.com/thefabe

Last Thursday i had the pleasure of attending DreamCatcher Ent's Chocolate Soul Lounge event. A musical open mic night with a live band which was fairly new to me, being that i haven't been to too many open mic nights, much less one with a live band. All the artists came out and rocked the crowd but one who person really stood out to me was Sky High. The fact that he was almost the tallest person there was not the most obvious thing, he wore a silver veal on his face during his performance. From having the crowd chant his hook " you so pretty and I'm so ugly" he entertained, engaged and even danced in and around the stage (picture a real tall dude in a veil dancing, singing and killing it) .The special guest for the night was singer Chantae Cann who not only has a following but the voice to justify it. The guest host of the night was Sahsha of Ella Bleu events who held it down like she always does. Props to DreamCatcher Ent for pulling off a good event with great talent participating.

Just Think Vol 45: Be Innovative
by A.EVANS
Twitter.com/AdotEVANS

Disclaimer: As always, I write these articles to stimulate minds and to get the thought process in motion....

While laying in bed after an amazing trip to the Dominican Republic, I started to reflect on what I saw, I envisioned the beauty of the land, and then I envisioned the poverty. While I envisioned the sad reality of children asking for money at 2 in the morning, I saw something that may seem crazy but was positive, and that was these children were innovators, they were persistent and determined to get what they wanted, and as long as they have that spirit, they will be able to endure anything. Right after day dreaming, I turned on the TV and began watching a show called "How To Make It In America". This show embodied everything I was thinking it was almost a sign from a higher power, it grabbed me, immediately I began writing in my phone. This week I want to discuss being an innovator, or a visionary, and having the drive to keep going no matter what.
Is It In You?

Gatorade has a slogan that most of you are familiar with "Is It In You" while watching "How To Make It In America" I immediately thought of that slogan and felt empowered. This show was a visual of what it means to be an innovator to the fullest degree. The two main characters Ben and Cam are New Yorkers with a goal of starting a denim line, the show is basically Entourage before the good life. What I love about this show is the portrayal of the grind, the hustle, the hunger, the vision; doing whatever it takes to make the dream a reality. There are times in the show where these guys put up their rent money just to get samples of their clothes made. I personally identified with Cam, played by Victor Rasuk. Cam was a native just like myself with dreams of the good life and a million ideas. Cam's issue was following thru with them all, and not getting distracted by things that lack importance. Eventually Cam learns how to use his side hustles like flipping skateboards to support one of his other dreams.

I mentioned this show because we all have dreams, and we all have a million ideas, sometimes we need to put those other ideas into motion to get closer to the main dream we have. So I ask "Is It In You?" Are you willing to do other hustles to get the main one rolling? Like the phrase says never put all your eggs in one basket, use your other great ideas as fuel to you fire, let it serve as your hunger, let it serve as your vision. Remember; the physical world is the mind's playground and your thoughts are the wand, make magic.

Innovation At It's Finest
After watching three episodes of "How To Make It In America", I clicked on the Netflix and prepared to watched an indie film to review. I saw a title called "Just For Kicks". When I tell you things happen for a reason, trust me they do, after watching a mini series on young innovators, I discovered a documentary that displays the best forms of innovation I have ever seen. This documentary shows the start of the sneaker industry and how it has propelled into one of, if not the biggest industry in the world. How did it start? Young urban innovators who wanted to be fresh, who wanted to start trends, and had a vision. When I say be innovators, take RUN DMC as an example. These dudes took a pair of $20 sneakers that were only worn in prison without laces and made them into a Hip Hop necessity, if that's not vision I don't know what is. Graffiti artist started writing names and images on the side of Air Force Ones and now are lead designers for Nike. That's what I mean by using one of your talents or hustles to get to that ultimate goal. Michael Jordan got fined every game for wearing the Air Jordan 1 which were in violation of the NBA dress code, had he not seen the big picture imagine what the NBA would be like right now. I say that to say this...be daring, do whatever it takes, see the vision.

Final Thoughts
Write down all of your talents, all the things you love and/or are good at, and then write down what you want to do. Next write down what will it take to get there, ask yourself how can you use the other talents as hustles to get to where you wanna be. See I know a group of innovators who have a ton of skills, they make amazing music, they're marketing geniuses , they know web design, HTML, photography, and design skateboards; Yet they circulate a newsletter to get the masses familiar with their name, what hustles are you willing to use to get closer to your dream, be an innovator, be versatile, see the vision...As Always Peace & Love

Marketing Buzz:5 Rules For Brands In Social Media
By Steve Canal
Twitter.com/SteveCanal
Twitter.com/ThinkGroupMedia

There are so many tips floating around, it's hard to know what truly essential strategies you should follow to effectively use social media to build your business. Questions abound: Do Facebook fans drive sales? Why should I fund forums for consumers to pillory my products, ridicule my service and tout the competition? And, whatever I decide to do, how I will I know if it's working?

In the search for truth, sometimes social media is its own worst enemy. With a self-credentialed guru waiting at every click, finding actionable, fact-based insight is tricky.

1. The 1% Rule
In category after category, our data show that a small fraction of site visitors are responsible for a substantial portion of total site traffic. On average, the percentage of influential users (defined for our purposes simply as a visitor who's subsequent sharing actions result in at least one additional site visitor) on a given site is 0.6% and rarely above 4%. However, these influencers regularly generate 20%-50% of total site traffic and an even higher share of conversion (defined however a site owner so decides). To make social media marketing effective, marketers have to identify and engage -- and better recognize and reward -- these super-influentials.

2. The New Media/New Pipes Rule
In today's socially driven internet, it matters far more what consumers do with your content than what you do with your content. What they say about your brand means more than what you say about your brand. Our data shows that content spread from consumer to consumer through word-of-mouth is far more powerful at driving brand preference and purchase intent than content distributed by the brand itself. This has profound implications in social media. To illustrate, if a brand puts content on its Facebook fan page, it is far less likely to go viral than if an influential consumer puts that very same piece of content on his or her page or posts it to a relevant community of enthusiasts.

3. The Martha Stewart Rule
Throw your own party; don't just cater someone else's! If you base your social campaigns in venues you don't control -- such as Facebook or YouTube -- you may get great "attendance," but data show it's hard to convert and retain these party-goers. If your goals are anything beyond building brand awareness, it's better to have a house of your own where friends can find you -- such as your own branded social site, contest site, or customer forum.

4. The More Things Change Rule
Our research consistently demonstrates that e-mail and IM remain popular ways to share content. So don't throw out your old e-mail marketing methods just because Facebook and Twitter are the newest communication platforms du jour. The tried-and-true methods of getting customers to share links via e-mail and IM are still extremely valuable sources of traffic. Furthermore, incorporating social elements into your e-mail, such as incentives to share, can dramatically enhance an investment you're already making.

5. The Customer-Service Rule
Social marketing programs succeed when they provide a service to the consumer. Traditional media-planing processes that begin with reach and frequency targets are largely unhelpful in social media. Reach and frequency -- as well as engagement, preference and conversion -- are positive consequences of giving consumers content that is sufficiently relevant and useful that they propagate your message across their own social graphs. Focus on providing useful content and offers to your target audience and they will spread your messages for you.

Real Talk: Work Yourself Out
By Cedric Shine
Twitter.com/NativeNotes

" 'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for him who believes." Mark 9: 23

I woke up at 10:40am on this beautiful Sunday morning. I had all intentions of going to church this morning but I didn't prepare myself for church this morning. I went to bed late after a lackluster night at the club to celebrate someone's birthday, but really I woke up late because I set no alarm, ironed no clothes and my heart wasn't in the right place. You see I didn't make it to the Wednesday service and I think I missed last Sunday too. Mentally I was getting in the habit that by going to church I was working on my relationship with God and if not at church then I was not. Well we all know that simply isn't true. In fact you can go to church 5x a week and still not be working on your relationship with God because your relationship with God is a personal situation.

I was being lazy. Not reading the word, not pondering how to let God shine through me out here in this world. I have confidence in the Lord, I speak of the lord with reverence but all of that is in myspiritual reserves. It's what has been being built in me for the last 26 years. But without being on a path to constantly get to know the Lord better and understand my place in his kingdom I'm doing myself a dis-service and spiting the greater relationship I could be building with the Lord.

So I woke up and rather than beat myself up for not getting up and going through the motions of going to church I decided to make church at home. I hit up some twitter folks and asked for some scripture. Grabbed my bible and my laptop and laid in bed reading the word of God and listening to a sermon I had never heard before. We've got to do this more often. We can't allow ourselves to only worship when we are in the 4 walls of the church. God is everywhere, and anywhere we can praise, listen and meditate on the words our Creator sends to us we must take full advantage of that opportunity.

I'm happy I missed church this morning because my waking up late allowed me to reflect on exactly what I was doing. I was going through the motions rather than being encouraged and inspired at the opportunity to meet God right where I lay. Our spirituality is a personal thing, something we must constantly work on. I have been a victim of this drive thru world we live in. I thought when I walked down the aisle, my soul's salvation was immediatley achieved. Once I went into the water for my baptism, I was *fixed*. But the truth is our soul's salvation is a lifelong process, something we must continue to work on inside of an institution of the Lord and outside in the world. I'm thankful for the opportunity that we can work out our personal struggles and high times with each other through the encouragement of the words of our Father. Peace and Grace be unto you.

La Familia:Alone With God

ALONE IS TO BE STILL
LONELY IS TO BE RESTLESS

To be lonely, a gut wrenching hollowness, comes from a place of spiritual emptiness. So you call up a "space filler," only to feel empty again the moment they leave your presence. Lonely only enhances your problems because its only purpose is to seek temporary resolutions. To be alone with God offers eternal gratification.

Lonely is not reserved for the single; married men and women are just as susceptible because what I speak of here is spiritual, not physical loneliness. When the restless settles in, you may blame your mate for the impeding doom of your psyche that was masked by the love and comfort of your mate. Your soul will recognize the masquerade and the truth will play itself out.

It's okay to feel lonely if you recognize it as a time you should be more involved in nurturing your soul. Lonely can surely be transformed into alone because alone is your place with God and, after all, God will never leave you. You will always be one with the creator. The creator can not exist without that which it created. You and God are one and the same but when you feel lonely you have emotionally lost acceptance of your divine connection.

Often we look for people to complete us because we are afraid of that intimate relationship with the God-self. We end up with someone with the same flaws because it's the only way to acknowledge your own character blemishes, so instead you project them onto someone else, denying their reflection of you. So the ego boasts without personal acceptance and never reconciles the inner conflict.

I have to laugh now, but many years ago I asked a man, "Do I complete you?" I feared losing him so I asked the question, hoping he would fear never being complete without me. I was emotionally and spiritually lonely; protruding my emptiness into his space, of course at the time not realize what I was doing. The lonely seek other lonely people for comfort because they feel ignored by the people simply seeking personal alone time. Intervals of alone time will give you balance, energy and clarity.

Now is the time to be alone with God. Don't fear the stillness within because that is your Being surrendering to the light of God. Submerge in the light and you will find spiritual clarity and emotional stability. You can be alone and happy; alone and fulfilled; alone and single; alone and married.

I suggest making time to be alone because it will actually enhance the relationships with those you love. What good are you to them if you are not any good to yourself? Light can not penetrate through loneliness, although it's inside of you waiting to be exposed as you surrender to alone-time with God.

Are you able to find "alone-time" with God? If so, describe to me one of your "alone-time" experiences.

Do I really need to go into detail for this one? If you were born in the 70's or 80's and never saw this movie WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOURSELF? Seriously this might be one of the most watched cult classics well at least in my hood. I know you guys remember phrases like "Who's The Master". The Last Dragon is by far one of my favorite movies I remember staying up just to watch this and paying for it in the morning. The dancing, the fight scenes, the storyline, everything about this movie was perfect. Every character in The Last Dragon was perfect from Laura Charles (Vanity) to Bruce Leroy to a young Ernie Reyes Jr. Then there's Sho'Nuf the meanest baddest toughest brotha on the planet sporting the "Blinds" shades way before Kanye did it. Remember the epic fight scene at the end when Leroy took on an army and his students came to his aide? Or what about the Golden Glow vs the Red Glow at the end, definitely some Chakra symbolism in there hmmm...

The Soundtrack featuring Willie Hutch (The Mack) El Dabarge, Stevie Wonder, Vanity and more was also on point, Berry Gordy and Rupert Hitzig were in a zone with this one. Supposedly there is a remake of the movie in the works with Samuel Jackson to play Sho'Nuff and Rhianna as Laura Charles, lets just hope its as dope as the original, I would really hate to see an awesome movie like that turn into Street Fighter. I might take up Martial Arts and go see the the producer if it's not good...If you never seen this film before, YOU ARE NOT AN 80'S baby and you deserve a swift Kung-Fu kick in the butt.

Just Think Vol 44: Keeping Up With The Joneses
by A.EVANS

twitter.com/AdotEVANS

Disclaimer: As always, I write these articles to stimulate minds and to get the thought process in motion.... Please read the disclaimer twice on this article.

We all have done it at one point in our life, we may not do it anymore, but we have at one point or another used our peers, siblings, and associates as a standard or focal point or comparison to know where we stand. Keeping up with the Joneses does not just exist within our respected communities and circles it exists all around us from Fashion, to Sports, to Twitter trending topics, to our language; we strive to keep up with whatever is the newest or next. Music is a clear indication of how as a society we attempt to Keep up with the Joneses, without even knowing it at times. We all want to be the first up on something, we all want to be the best, and we want to appear to be the illest. So in theory not only are we trying to Keep Up With The Joneses we want the Joneses to keep up with us. This week I want to discuss the possibilities of trying to keep up with the masses via Twitter, Facebook, etc... When does it become excessive and false?

Be A Leader... (As in An Individual as in YOURSELF)
It is extremely easy to be a follower, but takes strength to be a leader, to set your own pace, and to be your own person. What I mean by being your own person has nothing to do with anyone else other than yourself (obviously). Cynicism and sarcasm is necessary for the sake of getting my point of across, because at times we may do things, say things, or carry ourselves a certain way for the sake of appearing in a certain light in the eyes of others. We tend to hold the opinions of those close to us dear, sometimes the opinions of complete strangers as well. We may not all want to admit that, but I truly believe that statement holds some sort of truth behind it.

We post Twitter comments and Facebook updates as a reflection of what's going on in our life, where we are, who we are, and what we are doing; Lets keep it 100... Are we always saying these things because they are a complete reflection of who we are, or are we doing it to appear a certain way or in a certain light and attract a certain response or reaction? Are we trying to keep up with the Joneses or have the Joneses keep up with us? Ask yourself... Does the world really need to know if you are in a power meeting or are you saying it to keep up your image as a mogul, model, artist etc? Does everyone need to know that you have memorized the entire book of Psalms even though you were doing some things even Jesus wouldn't do the night before? Do we develop caricatures and include an entire personality and script on our internet profiles? Are we being completely honest with ourselves? Are we being leaders or followers or a little bit of both? Does Tweeting and providing Facebook updates empower the real us or the us we would like to be seen as, or is there a fine line that merges the two?

Twitter: Fantasy/Fallacy, or Empowerment?
As I write this piece I'm reading tweets on the time-line and it seems a lot of people tweet about their superiority or supremacy or dopeness( I've done it too). Now I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, but I do however, feel it supports my theory that we tweet certain things to appear in a certain light, either that or we use twitter for the sole purpose of marketing ourselves, in essence "Keeping up with the Joneses"(Not all of us). There are other theories I have pertaining to the whole " look at me" fiasco on Twitter, maybe people write certain things to feel important. Twitter does enable followers to feel like leaders. I mean think about it you don't have readers, members, or subscribers on Twitter you have followers, so maybe tweeting about our greatness enables us to feel powerful, keep up with the masses and keep our caricatures alive in the eyes of others(Making the Joneses keep up with you). So is it possible that Twitter provides a platform of motivation or does it cater to a fantasy/fallacy or is it all of the above? What do you tweet about? Are you tweeting about your life, funny things, or are you using twitter as a marketing tool that enhances your appearance in the eyes of others or are you really about business and not bullshit?

Final Thoughts
Try not to get defensive when reading these articles, I just speak food for thought and call it like I see it. I speak on things that I wonder about and I'm sure some of you ponder on as well. I'm sure you have all read a tweet from someone and said "Who Cares?" We all can take a brief second and really look at what we tweet and what our updates are about, and ask ourselves does everybody really need to know this or DO I NEED for this to be known? If you are true to yourself you'll find the honest answer, instead of keeping up with the Masses, Joneses, or having them keep up with us, let's try keeping up with ourselves, our REAL SELVES....As Always

Marketing Buzz:Don't Text And Drive
By Steve Canal
Twitter.com/SteveCanal
Twitter.com/ThinkGroupMedia

Texting and driving can have serious consequences. That's the message of a new campaign being rolled out by AT&T this week that says, "Txting & Drivng ... It Can Wait."

The national effort, by BBDO, New York, and BBDO, Atlanta, seeks to raise awareness, especially among younger drivers, about the risks of texting and driving. Ads show true stories about texting that changed or ended people's lives. For example, one TV spot shows the text "Where u at?" while a woman says, "This is the text my daughter was reading when she drove into oncoming traffic," along with the message: "No text is worth dying over."

The campaign, which will be rolled out over the next few months, will include print, radio and online in addition to TV. It will also use in-store signage, collateral and online billing. As part of the effort, AT&T has launched an online resource center, with information and pledges for parents and teens, and a Facebook app that friends can share to encourage each other to take the pledge not to text and drive. AT&T plans to promote the pledge with a "twitition" on Twitter and users can follow the effort via @ShareATT.

La Familia: I Text You To Death
By Shelli Tinae Price
La Familia Blogspot

We are so inundated with the speed of transmitting information that the meaning and validity of the messages are lost in transmission.

People will text each other to death before they love each other to death. I don't care what anyone says, if you have the time to text, you have the time to call. Now of course no one can deny how convenient texting is and how very useful it is in situations like just letting someone know you're on your way to meet them or just to say hello. What I refer to as text death are for those of us who build relationships via text. The irony is we are texting....on a phone, the very phone that was designed...to talk on. No text can replace the sound and vibration of a persons voice.

Now, I've always preferred typing over talking. Remember the skytel two-ways from back in the day? I absolutely loved that little gadget but at that time only those of us in the entertainment field and the entertainment wanna-be's had one. In fact, the word "texting" hadn't even been coined. We were just happy to meet people with them so we could "beam" our contact information to one another. I was only able to contact those in my circle as the rest of the world was still getting acclimated to email and analog cell phones.

Now I'm having people text me books that come in 3-parts; expressing ambiguous thoughts and I can't tell if they are legit or bogus; using acronyms that I have to google to discover its connotation before I can even respond; getting dirty jokes that come equipped with perverted photos; and my favorite are the texts from men I haven't talked to in 2 years who just want to spark a text conversation.

I had dinner with a friend yesterday and her phone rang from a guy she's been, for lack of a better word, "text dating," and she didn't know what do. She let her phone go to voicemail to buy herself time to try to decipher what a call from him might mean. Does he want something? At this point his very voice is unfamiliar.

Again, I'm all for texting but texting can be abused.

Here are some texting DON'TS:

DON'T CONTACT A PERSON FOR THE FIRST TIME VIA TEXT. CALLING SHOWS INTEREST, TEXTING INDICATES YOU DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO GET TO KNOW THE PERSON.

DON'T SAY I LOVE YOU FOR THE FIRST TIME VIA TEXT. MATTERS OF THE HEART SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IN PERSON OR LAST RESORT WOULD BE TO VERBALLY EXPRESS YOUR FEELINGS OVER TELEPHONE.

DON'T TEXT A QUESTION IN ANGER, THAT COULD GO ON FOR 12 HRS INSTEAD OF A 12 MINUTE CONVERSATION. BESIDES, IT FEELS BETTER TO BITCH ALOUD.

DON'T EXPECT A RESPONSE IF YOU DIDN'T ASK A QUESTION. THE PERSON IS NOT OBLIGATED TO RESPOND TO COMMENTS SO DON'T KEEP CHECKING YOUR PHONE WAITING ON A REPLY.

Now that you are well versed on some texting etiquette please say this aloud:

ON MY HONOR, I WILL TEXT RESPONSIBLY. I WILL "MAN-UP (OR WOMAN UP)" AND CALL AND NOT HIDE BEHIND MY TEXT MESSAGES. ON MY HONOR, TEXTING WILL NOT SUBSTITUTE VERBAL COMMUNICATION.

Old School Cell Phones

We all have one, it is the most essential device in our lives, it serves as our support system our wallet our link to the world our secretary and marketing company. Cell phones do everything from text to twitter, "to flipping your pancakes" - George Carlin. Remember when they didn't do all the wonderful things they do now, remember when everyone didn't have a cell phone? If you had a cell phone back in the day you were either a doctor, lawyer, or stock broker, or just some rich guy who wanted to look cool. Remember when the size of a cell phone was practically the size of your leg, circa Zach Morris?

The first cell phone introduced to the urban community would probably have to be the Ericson, remember it was believed to cause brain tumors or cancer? Remember wanting one so bad you'd save all your money to get one and only had 5 people you could really call with it? As we evolved and made technological advances the cell phone become sleeker, the next real break thru for cell phones was probably the Startac Motorola, this was around the time more and more people began having cellular phones, I'd say around 95, 96 that's when high school students began carrying them around "in case of emergencies" and since then we have never looked back. In 2010 we have all types of cell phones with unique features and looks designed to fit our different personalities and styles, but can you imagine if there weren't any advances in technology and people were walking around with the Zach Morris phone today? Imagine trying to get on an airplane with one of those lol you're definitely not making your flight .

Just Think Vol 43: Ballin or Buffoonery?

by A.EVANS

twitter.com/AdotEVANS

Disclaimer: As always, I write these articles to stimulate minds and to get the thought process in motion....

Vol 43: Ballin or Buffoonery?
The title says it all, our people spend entirely too much money on things we don't need. Our people have been targeted as the number one consumers in the world, imagine if we started our own movements with the money we spend, and I don't mean your bum ass record label either...
Today I was on Media Takeout eating my breakfast and I saw something that isn't a gigantic deal but non the least I feel it was pretty silly. NBA player Marquis Daniels has a chain or piece that is a replica of his head, and it is estimated at 500K. Listen, I'm far from a hater but 500K on a chain must be nice, umm there are a million other things Marquis could've done with that, but since it isn't my money and the brother does earn his pay I won't target him directly, however I do want to speak on the concept of ballin vs. buffoonery, when is too much just too much and why are we being soo damn foolish?
Quit Posing First of all let me start by saying I have done some really silly things when I was younger so I never act holier than thou, we've all popped bottles, wore outfits once and left them in the hotel and overall just blown money excessively on dumb things, but when do we learn from it? When do we say “Let me save this money instead of posing in the club tonight?” When do we take the stacks we wanna blow on a chain and start a business and hire our boys so we all can make money? There is nothing wrong with celebrating and buying nice things for yourself if you work hard, but people please don't try to make it rain with your rent money, and secondly stop trying to copy rappers who don't really have it the way the videos may lead you to believe, because chances are if his percentage of royalties isn't on point, and he don't have any control over his masters...he's broke so not only are you imitating something you saw on TV, you;re imitating a broke ass poser. At 23 I thought it was cool to pop bottles, at 28 I think its the dumbest (sh*t) I've ever heard of, “Look at me I got a $400 bottle that's gonna only last 45mins.” What else could you have done with that $400 people?
You ever ask yourself why would a bottle that's $50 in the store be $200 - $500 in a club? Here's a lil piece advice from a childhood friend of mine who owns a club in NYC and it's dope one... “We overcharge for bottles in clubs because we know there are people out there who wanna be seen, they wanna feel like a celebrity even when they're not, we make back the cost of the bottle on two shots” - Ballin or Buffoonery you tell me? So while your stunting with you bottle and making rain like you're pimp, you're really just a flashy hoe cuz you went and got all that money and brought it to the club owner who in return buys a house that you could've bought !!! survey says...(buffoonery)

Final Thoughts
Like I always say I just speak food for thought, live your life do what you want, but if you're wasting money foolishly in 2010 I hope you know what you're doing? I hope you have a game plan and a great strategy. As usual for the sake of remaining “P.C” I won't go too deep unless requested, however I will say this; Kings and Queens deserve nothing but the best, but if we need to have the best to feel good about ourselves or to attract attention, then we're nothing more than peasants, just my humble opinion. Get fly feel great but don't over do it for the wrong reasons, if you don't need it don't do it, because at the end of the day you're making someone else rich and that isn't ballin that's being a slave. Yeah Melo is the MVP but the dude who cuts his check is the real baller. I think we have all truly been brainwashed and poisoned into thinking we gotta be flashy(guilty), or we gotta be the flyest, we're competing with each other over things that really hold no weight. You ever seen what a real billionaire wears? He wears new balance sneakers with holes in them, Levi jeans and a flannel shirt and the only time he makes it rain is when he presses the HARP button, get your mind right people....As Always Peace & Love

Real Talk: A Friendly Game Called Russian Roulette

By C.Shine
Twitter.com/NativeNotes

Have you ever played Russian Roulette? If you're not familiar with the game; one places a single bullet in the barrel of a handgun and then twirls the chamber. You then raise the gun to your temple and pull the trigger. If you're lucky, the gun just clicks and your anxiety reaches a peak you never knew existed before. If you're unlucky, well sucks for you, you just committed suicide and you're dead, laying Kennedy style with your memory out to quote a notable rapper.

So have you ever played Russian roulette, are you interested in playing this weekend? Probably not, but you might be more familiar with a different version of the same game. It goes a little like this ---- "ooohh you feel so good, I just need to be inside you" sans condom. We play Russian Roulette every time we have unprotected sex with our partner(s).

We're taking a chance with our lives. I've done it and God has spared me. I've even promised never to do it again because I was fortunate to hear the gun click and I'm still here. But others have not been so "lucky".

Nearly 40% of new HIV infections are among African Americans ages 13-29. I'm in that age group, I'm African American, I have sex; so it's reasonable to assume that I am at risk every time I sleep with a new partner. When I read this statistic it frightened me, confusion consumed me. Deep down I ask myself "how do we combat HIV."

Prevention. We can teach abstinence, the benefits of safe sex and the dangers of unprotected sex, i.e. STI's. We can work with groups who help get folks tested so that they know their status because most who spread std's don't know they have an std. But really all of this has been done, is continuing to be executed and still we have these breathtaking numbers. Some of us are missing the message.

Then I thought about it. How do we teach someone to fight his or her lustful desires? I've heard stories of men going to Brasil looking for hot sex with beautiful women. An area that we all know is being ravaged by the HIV pandemic. Yet brothers still come back with the virus. Why? They knew the risks down there, why didn't they take the proper precautions to safeguard their lives?

Son she looked so good, her ass was so fattt. It clouded my vision. I've never been with someone so beautiful, I just wanted to feel her. These are the responses but like Snoop said "ain't no p**** good enough to get burnt while I'm up in it". How do we teach men and women that they're not invincible, that they are playing with their lives every time they engage in unprotected sexual activity? How do we tell them that an act of lust can have life long repercussions? I don't know the answer, I'm wondering how to tell myself this because as I have already stated I have made the mistake myself. Please feel free to respond and maybe we can brainstorm effective ways to reshape our community's outlook on sex and the reality of contracting STD's. If we don't we're risking not only the health of our neighbors but ourselves. Let's Make it Happen.

Sol Fusion iRock Recap
By A. Evans
Twitter.com/AdotEvans

Just when I thought I couldn't have any more fun after a vacation in the Dominican Republic, J. Carter indirectly told me to "think again". March 5th 2010 kicked off the first Sol Fusion of the New Year at Aja and definitely lived up to its expectation. For those of you who aren't familiar with Sol Fusion, it is one of the biggest parties that takes place in Atlanta, whenever you hear the words "Sol Fusion" you better make sure you are in attendance. In the past the theme of this event has been "I heart NY, Miami vs Atlanta, and Milk & Honey", but this one was different, this one was special. The theme of this soiree was titled "iRock" and that's exactly what everyone did. At the stroke of midnight free tequila shots started flowing and folks begin to cut loose.

DJ WrekinEyez set the tone for the entire night with just one set, as soon as he threw on a throwback track by Jay Z titled "Rhyme No More" the energy grew and the madness began. Wall to wall dancing and beautiful people, What else could you ask for? Big Pooh of Little Brother was in attendance doing his 1.2 thing, but the night belonged to two guys who really need no introduction. If you have ever been to an underground spot in Atlanta called MJQ's then you are familiar with the insanity that is Alien and D.R.E.S Tha BEATnik, these geniuses took over the party and the rest was history. Not only did they get the crowd hype as usual, they played live instruments; in essence iRock wasn't just a party, it was a concert, it was a movement, it was an experience that will be spoke of for the rest of the year. If you didn't attend the legendary Sol Fusion iRock Celebration you definitely getting the screwface.

An Exclusive Interview with Consequence and StephLova of Power 105.1
By Stephanie Gergeres
juicyhighlights@gmail.com

Last night, DigiWaxx Hosted Consequence's Music Meeting and in that Exclusive interview Consequence made it clear that he isn't going anywhere, but to the top. During this private listening session, Steph Lova of Power 105.1 interviewed Consequence to fill us in on his latest projects. During their chit chat, Consequence introduced a few songs from his new mix tape called " Movies On Demand" which is set to be released on March 15th, while his album " Cons TV" is set to drop between May Or June.

At the session, Consequence showed a lot of passion and excitement about his mix tape and album . I mean on the real, Consequence was so hyped about his project, he literally jumped up performing and spitting each rhyme as the songs were being played. Steph Lova was so thrilled to see his love for his music seeping through, that she interrupted his mini performance, and comically stated " Wow, I know you love your own shit and that's wassup". Now in my opinion, that was hot to see, because today many artist don't even show their excitement about what they are working on, let alone vibe and spit with their own music, so that example right there, should tell you all about what true passion for your music is.

As Steph Lova continued the interview, Consequence dropped the bomb by letting us all know that two of Hip Hop's biggest hitters Kanye West and Q-tip, which have never worked together decided to team up and produce his whole album " Cons TV". Now, when I heard that, all I could think about in my head was , wow this man is definitely coming out with some man power behind him and I know you guys are thinking that too!

Not only did Consequence fill us in about his background work with other artist such as, producing on Kanye's College Drop Out album, but he also spoke about all the influences that he had for each track on " Movies on Demand" and "Cons TV". As we all sat in the intimate session and listened to each track, everyone definitely had their head bopping, including myself. Now here is the kicker about this hot new album, Consequence is really collaborating with some heavy hitters: John Legend, Kid Cudi, Rick Ross, Music Soul child, Asher Roth, Maino and Diddy. So in the words of Consequence, " I am working with best of both worlds and ain't no MC better than me."

La Familia: R-E-S-P-E-C-T

If you want your relationship to be everlasting, then you need to recognize that love and respect go hand-n-hand. We can easily be in love with someone and have an affair at the same time but what stops us from making that pesky move? RESPECT. Respect for ourselves and hopefully we realize that we don't want to disrespect our mate at any cost. I feel if you can't control the urge to cheat - then just break up with your mate. Temptation is in all of us but humans have the ability to make choices. Now I'm not saying breaking up with someone you love is easy because there is no way to avoid the hurt and pain - but you could at least say that you were mature enough to recognize that the change taking place inside of you required a change in the current status of your relationship.

If we cheat on mates then we are disrespecting them for the sake of our own self indulges. When you love someone beyond your own selfish pleasures, then you can truly say you love them. When you keep it one hundred first and foremost and you don't lie to them - then you can say LOVE respectfully...and not egocentrically. The ego can keep us seeking self gratification and over look the need to be with one with all there is.

Love me respectfully, not egocentrically.

Tribute to Christopher "Notorious Big" Wallace

Today marks the anniversary of the death of Christopher "Notorious Big" Wallace, artist, father and inspiration to many. I remember like it was yesterday walking home from school with headphones, downtown brooklyn listening to his first album "Ready to Die". A favorite of mine was "Gimme the Loot" , a graphic depiction of two stick up kids catching unsuspecting victims or vics. Big ushered in his own style of rap, describing himself as black and ugly as ever, he embraced his size and blackness but still had a player's smooth demeanor with his mastery of words, painting pictures every time he touched a track. Prior to Big's arrival on the scene, i will have to say that west coast rap dominated for the most part but after him the focus shifted back to the east. Big was one of the few rappers who could give you a grimy tale, make you laugh and impress the ladies all on one album. His greatest strength was storytelling which literally could put you right there in the as clearly shown on tracks like Juicy,I got a story to tell and Somebody's got to die. Big only was able to release Ready to Die before his death but all his music has still been able to touch fans as if he were still here today.
